Frequently Asked Questions

  • Counselling is a safe, confidential and private space where you can talk openly about whatever feels important. It’s a chance to explore your thoughts and feelings with someone who listens without judgement and supports you in making sense of your experiences.

  • If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, curious about yourself, or want a space to talk things through, then counselling might be helpful for you.

You don’t need to have a big crisis or a clear reason to come — many people come to counselling just knowing that something doesn’t feel right.

Counselling offers a supportive, non-judgemental space where you can bring whatever’s on your mind. If you're wondering whether it's right for you, you're not alone — lots of people feel unsure at first. You're welcome to get in touch, and we can discuss what you're looking for and determine if it's a good fit.

  • My fee is £60 per 50-minute session.

I occasionally offer reduced fees for those with limited income. Please enquire if this applies to you as availability is limited.

Sessions are usually weekly, and we can agree on a regular day and time that works for you.

  • Everything you share stays private, except if there’s a risk of serious harm, which I would aim to discuss with you first.

I also have regular professional supervision (all ethical counsellors do), to make sure I’m supporting you well. When I discuss your case, I keep your identity hidden and change any details so it can’t be traced back to you.

If you have any questions or worries about confidentiality, you’re very welcome to ask; it’s important you feel safe and informed.

  • I recommend weekly sessions, especially in the beginning. Meeting regularly, ideally for at least the first 12 weeks, helps build a sense of safety and trust between us. This is really important for the deeper therapeutic work to unfold.

After that, we can review things together and decide what feels right going forward. Some people continue every week, while others switch to fortnightly intervals or take a break and return when needed.

Counselling is most helpful when it’s consistent, but it’s also flexible. We’ll find a rhythm that works for you.

  • The first session is a bit different from ongoing therapy. I’ll ask some questions to get a sense of where you're at; what’s brought you to counselling, anything that feels important for me to know, and a little about your past experiences (if you feel comfortable sharing). There’s no pressure to tell your whole story straight away.

We’ll also go over the counselling agreement, which outlines key details such as confidentiality, session times, fees, and my working approach. This helps us establish clear boundaries and a shared understanding.

Most importantly, it’s your space. You're welcome to ask questions, share what you're hoping for, or get a feel for how it is to talk with me.

You don’t have to decide anything on the spot. It's completely okay to take some time after the session to think about whether it feels right for you.

  • Counselling is different for everybody. For some, it’s about exploring the past to understand how experiences shape feelings, behaviours, and relationships. For others, it’s about having a safe space where they can feel truly heard and understood.

Some people come with a specific issue they want to work on, like anxiety, grief, stress, or relationship challenges. Others use counselling to explore their emotions, develop coping strategies, gain a better understanding of themselves, navigate life changes, or build confidence and self-esteem.

Ultimately, counselling is guided by your needs and what you want from the process, making it a highly personal and flexible way to support your growth and well-being.

  • The best way is to try a first session and see how it feels. The relationship is the most essential part of the process. If you feel comfortable and understood, that’s a good sign we can work well together.
